Cumbrae yarns has a colourful stock of lovely wool to suit all budgets and skills. Lots of accessories and books too - ideal gifts for the knitters or crocheters in your life. Another independent shop to visit during a weekend or holiday on the island. An ideal time to start a new hobby or brush up on old knitting or crocheting skills.
A little bit about Carol
and Cumbrae Yarns
The Isle of Cumbrae and the people of Millport are very special to me. Our family had a holiday flat on the island for many years so I decided to retire here. I have lovely memories of holidays and weekends when my daughter was young and my mum was well. When my mum became ill I looked after her here and Millport folk were exceptionally kind.
In 2018 I set out on a new venture, making new memories and knitting a new future. With the help of North Ayrshire Council and Historic Environment Scotland I have fully renovated and brought an old shop by the pier back to life. I am pleased to be able to give something back to Millport and delighted with the support I have received from the community. There are some expert knitters and crocheters on the island. I hope that in the next few years Millport will become as well known for knitting as it is for cycling! Cumbrae yarns is a destination shop worth a visit. Hope to see you soon.
Wool & yarn
Plans for workshops and classes have been delayed during the past two years due to Covid. We had one excellent evening of Beginners Crochet but had to cancel due to ongoing restrictions. As regulations in shops ease soon in Scotland we can hopefully enjoy crafting together in small groups. Please visit Facebook page for updates.
